At Least 25 Azerbaijani Servicemen Have Died in Non-Combat Circumstances This Year
Azerbaijan marks Armed Forces Day today.
However, as in previous years, deaths among servicemen in non-combat circumstances continue to be reported in the Azerbaijani army.
According to data released by the Caspian Military Research Institute as of 22 June, at least 25 Azerbaijani servicemen have died in non-combat circumstances this year.
Based on media reports, four of them died from various illnesses, four by suicide, six in traffic accidents, and five as a result of other accidents. Among these accidents, one serviceman drowned, one died after slipping in a mountainous area, two died from carbon monoxide poisoning, and one died after falling from a high-rise building.
The cause of death of another six servicemen remains unknown.
Of the deceased servicemen, 15 served in the Ministry of Defence, six in the State Border Service, one in the Internal Troops, one in the Special State Protection Service, one in the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and one in the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription.
Eight of those who died were conscripts, three were officers, three were warrant officers, three were long-term active military servicemen, and three were cadets. The military status of the remaining servicemen is unknown.
According to the institute, at least 43 servicemen in Azerbaijan’s security and defence sector died in non-combat circumstances in 2025.
