France-Based Azerbaijani Activist Reports Death Threats Over Critical Social Media Posts

Ramazan Taghiyev, an Azerbaijani civic activist residing in France, says he has been targeted with death threats and coordinated cyberattacks following his critical commentary on social media, according to an interview with Meydan TV.

The harassment began in March after Taghiyev published posts discussing Meyxana performer Rashad Dagli, as well as a critical series concerning “Cavan TV” and affiliated bloggers. Shortly after, Taghiyev reported receiving threatening messages from unknown individuals alongside massive digital interference. He stated that his accounts were hit with roughly 1,100 cyberattack attempts traced back to Baku’s Yasamal district (Parliament Avenue), prompting Meta to temporarily lock his account for security precautions.

Taghiyev identified one of the key figures behind the threats as an individual known as “Roma” (Rashad), who was previously implicated and subsequently released in connection with the violent assault against France-based dissident blogger Mahammad Mirzali.

According to Taghiyev, the suspect sent explicit warnings referencing that past attack:

“Our job with Mahammad Mirzali was left unfinished, but now we will finish both of you. I know where you stay, and I am coming there.”

Taghiyev formally filed a complaint with French law enforcement. French police have reportedly identified the suspect’s location in Colomiers, near Toulouse, and launched an official criminal investigation. A specialized unit has been dispatched to apprehend the suspect, and border control checkpoints have been alerted to prevent him from fleeing the country.

Taghiyev emphasized that the threats are directly tied to his public activism and freedom of expression rather than any personal or domestic dispute.
