On 15 December 2023, the Baku City Surakhani District Court issued an order: to satisfy the investigator’s petition on arrest and issue a preventive measure against Mohyaddin Orujev in the form of detention for a period of 4 months.
The period of detention in custody during the investigation has been subsequently extended several times Sentence: On 25 February 2025, the Baku City Court for Serious Crimes issued a verdict: since the prosecution failed to provide any convincing evidence in the course of the trial, the Judge 59 substituted the previous Article of the Prosecution with a new one, 234.1-1 (Illegal acquisition or storage of drugs or psychotropic substances without the purpose of sale in an amount exceeding the amount necessary for personal consumption, committed in a large amount) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.

Orujev was arrested for a 30-day period on charges of petty hooliganism and disobedience to the law enforcement officers.
According to his brother, the real reason for the arrest was M.
Orujev's critique regarding the policy of the authorities that he expressed on Facebook.
After being released, M.
Orujev wrote on his Facebook page that the officers of the Baku City Surakhani District 32nd Police Station subjected him to the brutal beating and psychological assault.
In response, the officers of the same police station detained him again in the morning of 13 December 2023, without informing the activist's relatives about the place of his detention.
Only by the end of the day it was known that M.
Orujev had been arrested, but that time as a suspect in a drug case.
On 22 December 2023, M.
Orujev's lawyer, Nazim Musayev, told the journalists, that during the Baku City Court of Appeal session, M.
Orujev had claimed that he was deprived of the right to make a phone call in the pre-trial detention center.
According to the lawyer, that restriction could only be enforced by an investigative body.
However, the investigator informed the lawyer that he had not made such a request.

Orujev's mother made a statement to the journalists saying: "We managed to communicate with him only once on 15 December, when he was taken out of the courthouse.
My son managed to tell us that he was blackmailed by my arrest and the "discovery" of a large batch of drugs at home, therefore, he was forced to confess".
