Nijat Aliniyaz oglu Aliyev – member of the Muslim Unity Movement Date of arrest: 1 December 2022 Charge: Article 234.4.3 (Illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances committed in large amount) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.
On 1 December 2022, Nijat Aliyev was detained near his home in the village of Masazyr by civilians and taken away in an unknown direction without authorization and witnesses.
Later, relatives learned that he was arrested by the police on charges of drug possession.
On 2 December 2022, the Baku City Binagadi District Court issued a ruling: to apply a preventive measure against Nijat Aliyev in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months.
The period of detention in custody during the investigation has been subsequently extended several times Sentence: On 22 September 2023, the Baku City Court for Serious Crimes sentenced to 5 years in prison.
On 13 December 2023, the Baku City Court of Appeal considered Nijat Aliyev's appeal and shortened his sentence to 4 years' imprisonment.
