On 11 September 2024, the Baku City Nasimi District Court issued a ruling: to apply a preventive measure against Nijat Ibrahimov in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months.

According to the lawyer, Zibeyda Sadigova, in fact, the ban on leaving the country imposed on N.
Ibrahimov by the decision of the Baku Sabayil District Court had been earlier revoked.
Therefore, on 7 September 2024, Nijat Ibrahimov called the ‘102’ service the Ministry of Internal Affairs and complained about the illegal ban on leaving the country.
The activist warned that if the illegal ban is not removed, he will perform an act of self-incineration in front of the Ministry.
At the same time, he informed the media about his unlawful detention and criticised the Ministry.
On 9 September, an unknown man attacked him at a gas station and knocked on the ground.
Shortly afterwards, he was confronted by the policemen who blindfolded him taking to the police department, where they opened a criminal case on charges of intentional infliction that caused serious harm to health (Article 126.1 of the AR Criminal Code).

Ibrahimov began a hunger strike.
Meanwhile, the courts denied the defence's petitions for arrest cancellation or transfer to house arrest.
Then, on 20 November 2024, Nijat Ibrahimov committed a suicide attempt in the pre- trial detention centre, he inflicted numerous wounds on himself in protest against an unjustified criminal prosecution.
According to his wife Parvin Ibrahimova, her husband called her on 21 November 2024 and told that he had cut his throat and ears with a piece of mirror the day before, 71 ‘He got stitches and he lost much blood, he is in a serious condition.

At the same time, N.
Ibrahimov, who twice injured himself in protest against unjustified criminal prosecution, has serious health problems.
Besides the injuries that have not yet healed, he has hypertension.
