We immediately assumed that Kanan Zeynalov could have been detained." Not until the following day, 22 March, the Ministry of Internal Affairs officially confirmed the opposition party activist's detention. According to the official version of the Ministry, some 36- year-old Anar Rahimov was hospitalized with stab wounds to the abdomen at 20:00 in the evening of 21 March in Yeni Gunashli settlement of Baku Surakhani district. In the course of the carried out activities, 59-year-old Kanan Zeynalov was detained as a suspect by the police. According to the police, the incident was based on a personal conflict. The PFPA called the Interior Ministry' accusations against Kanan Zeynalov far-fetched and the case fabricated. Natiq Adilov, the PFPA Head of press service, said: "We have no doubt that the criminal case against Zeynalov is being fabricated, and the allegation that he injured someone is bogus. Such an accusation is often brought against the opposition activists, especially our party members. Kanan Zeynalov is an active member of our party. He is a volunteer-bodyguard of Ali Karimli, the leader of the PFPA. As a matter of fact, another bodyguard of Ali Karimli, Niyamaddin Ahmadov, was arrested five years ago and sentenced to 13 years on fabricated charges. Kanan Zeynalov was previously subjected to administrative arrest, but now they initiated a criminal case." 79
