The Alliance for the Liberation of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners has published an updated registry documenting 328 individuals recognized as political prisoners in Azerbaijan. The list was released on May 13, 2026, and categorizes detainees into 12 groups based on their area of activity.

According to the breakdown, the largest group consists of 182 religious activists, followed by political party and civil society members. The list includes 15 women among the total. Other categories cover journalists, human rights defenders, bloggers, and individuals imprisoned in connection with the “Ganja case” and “Tartar case.”

The registry highlights that 12 individuals have been sentenced to life imprisonment, while 13 are connected to the controversial Ganja case. The Tartar case accounts for additional convictions, and at least 8 human rights defenders remain behind bars.

International human rights organizations continue to call for the release of all political prisoners in Azerbaijan, citing concerns about politically motivated prosecutions and fair trial standards.
