A journalist working for Meydan TV anonymously explained that ‘of course, they will allow lawyers later, but first of all they want to take testimonies of our colleagues and deprive them of qualified legal assistance”.
Right after the Khatai District Court ruling against Aytaj Ahmadova (Taptiq), her lawyer Javad Javadov declared, "Aytaj Taptiq does not plead guilty.
She said that she had being persecuted for her professional work.
However, she considered the case unfounded and said during the interrogation that ‘journalism is not a crime’.
Generally speaking, the nature of the ‘suspicion’ is not clear to us, everything was stated in general words”.
The lawyer further pointed out that Aytaj Ahmadova's (Taptiq) flat was searched and, in the course, if it the police seized her mobile phone, computer and video cameras.
Initially, Aytaj Ahmadova (Taptiq) was charged with involvement in smuggling, which she denied.

The arrest of all employees of the Baku Meydan TV caused a wide resonance and disapproval among many politicians and representatives of the Azerbaijani civil society.
