Biography and Details

Alim Yusifov – believer Date of arrest: 31 January 2024 170 Charge: Article 234.4.3 (Illegal manufacturing, purchase, storage, transportation, transfer or selling of narcotics, psychotropic substances committed in large amount) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijan Republic.

On 1 February 2023, the Shamkir District Court issued a ruling: to apply a preventive measure against Alim Yusifov in the form of arrest for a period of 4 months, that measure was subsequently extended.

Sentence: On 6 May 2024, the Ganja City Court for Serious Crimes issued a verdict: to find Alim Yusifov guilty and sentenced him to 5 years and 6 months imprisonment with serving the sentence in a general regime penal institution.

Place of detention: Pre-trial Detention Center № 1 at the Kyurdakhani settlement in Baku City Sabunchu District Conclusion: Alim Yusifov, a former political prisoner, in March 2019 was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months imprisonment in the so-called "Ganja case", but in Decmber 2023 was granted a pardon and released from jail.

He was a mullah at a mosque in Dallar settlement in Shamkir district.

However, he was not at liberty for a long time.

According to the his wife, on 31 January 2024, someone called and invited him to come to the funeral.

Instead of funeral, he was met by the police officers at the specified address; they detained him inserting some drugs in his pocket, insisting that he should admit the drugs as his own.

Alim Yusifov refused to do it.

Then he was taken to the Shamkir district police station.

His relatives were informed about his detention only three days later.

For 5 months he has not been given the opportunity to meet or at least call his family.

The police demanded him to admit to drug possession.
