He was a popular preacher and frequently posted religious texts on Facebook. On 22 September 2025, he was once again invited to a religious gathering to talk about the basics of Islam. On his way, he was suddenly attacked by several individuals in civilian clothes and forced into the car taking him to some unknown destination. As it later became known, Asgar Mammadov was detained by the Baky City Khirdalan District Police Department officers and sentenced to 4 -month term of imprisonment in a Pre-trial Detention Center for the period of preliminary investigation.
