BAKU, June 10 — A magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck the Caspian Sea on Wednesday morning, according to Azerbaijan’s national seismic monitoring agency.
The tremor was recorded at 8:55 a.m. local time, with its epicenter located at a depth of 18 kilometers (11.1 miles) beneath the seabed, the Earthquake Research Bureau of the Republican Seismic Survey Center reported. The monitoring center operates under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
There were no immediate reports of structural damage, and the minor quake was largely unfelt by residents along the coastal areas. The Caspian basin is a seismically active region, though tremors of this magnitude rarely result in disruptions to regional maritime operations or energy infrastructure.
