On 4 August 2025, the Baku City Court for Serious Crimes imposed a preventive measure in the form of deprivation of liberty against Anar Abdulla for the period of 2 months during the preliminary investigation.

On 8 April 2025, Anar Abdulla was summoned to the Baku City Main Police Department, where he was charged in connection with the case of Anar Mammadli, a human rights defender and the EMDSC head.
After that, a preventive measure was imposed on the journalist by placing him under the police supervision.
On 11 July 2025, in Baku, Anar Abdulla was detained and arrested for 30 days on an administrative charge related to disobeying the police and petty hooliganism.
His colleagues indicated that Anar Abdulla was arrested with the purpose of coercing him to self-incriminate in the criminal case.
On 4 August 2025, there was another trial in the criminal case of the Head of Human Rights Defender Anar Mammadli and Anar Abdulla.
The State prosecutor filed a motion asking to change Anar Abdulla's preventive measure of detention and arrest him in the courtroom.
The motion was granted and Anar Abdulla was immediately arrested.
